November 2011
Dear Neighbor,
This year Westwood Land Trust, Inc. (“WLT”) achieved two long-term goals -
providing 30 new acres of public hiking trails at 1255 High Street (the former
Holbrook Farm property) and preserving part of the former Lee/Sarkis estate at 303,
315 and 327 Grove Street. While we are excited to have successfully preserved these
properties, these efforts have left WLT with very little funds. WLT needs to raise
another $170,000 toward the preservation of 303, 315 and 327 Grove Street and has
other important properties to save. We are asking every town resident who can afford
it to make a donation to WLT this year, however small.
Here are seven good reasons to support Westwood Land Trust:
- WLT is the only entity preserving land in Westwood, saving over 130 acres in the
past 11 years. There are currently no town funds or other charitable organizations
dedicated to saving Westwood’s open space.
- WLT has preserved scenic views along Clapboardtree Street, Gay Street, Grove
Street, High Street, Hartford Street, Sandy Valley Road, and Summer Street, which
are regularly enjoyed by all Westwood residents.
- WLT is a local charity that relies on Westwood residents. WLT does not receive
any funding from the town or from national organizations.
- WLT needs to receive broad public support to maintain its public charity status.
At least 1/3 of WLT’s support must come from persons other than major donors.
- Over 99% of WLT donations go directly to land conservation. WLT spends less than 1% on overhead.
- WLT cannot continue its important work without the support of town residents -
there are many more acres of land to be saved.
- Open space is a key attraction to our town and enhances property values.
Please join our efforts by making a tax-deductible contribution this year.
Please print, complete and send this donation card
along with your contribution. Thank you for your support.
